Craft Fair Season: Lessons Learned & Tips for Success

Positioning yourself well for craft fair season is a crucial piece of the small business puzzle—and as a small business owner, I’ve found it to be invaluable. Now entering year two of this journey, I’m stepping into it with more knowledge, confidence, and a strong sense of self-worth.

That wasn’t always the case. There were plenty of moments when I looked in the mirror and asked myself, “Am I a fool for doing this?” The jury’s still out on that one (lol), but one thing I do know? When it comes to manufacturing home fragrances, I’m on the right path. My focus is on craftsmanship and innovation, and I’m committed to pushing forward.

Now, let’s get back to the real craft fair season conversation. It can feel overwhelming, but I’ve learned some valuable lessons that will help you navigate it with confidence.

1. Start Small… Seriously, Start Small!

I made the mistake of going overboard—coordinating every little detail, branding everything in sight. The result? My booth looked less like a small business and more like a friendly pyramid scheme (ouch).

The truth is, craft fair shoppers aren’t looking for gimmicks. They want authentic, handcrafted products made by passionate artisans. Over-branding before I had built customer relationships didn’t do me any favors. I ended up ditching expensive printed pens and T-shirts and going back to the basics—a decision I wish I had made sooner. Lesson learned!

2. Don’t Spread Yourself Too Thin

As the season approaches, I have a mental checklist of “what NOT to do this year.” At the top of that list? Trying to be everywhere at once.

Ambitious entrepreneurs, listen up:
✅ You
can’t be at every craft fair.
Not everyone is your audience.
✅ A bad sales day
does not define your success.

If this is your first year, remember—slow and steady wins the race. Some days will be great, others not so much. But what matters most? Keep going! The right customers will find you, and your business will grow.

So, as you gear up for craft fair season, embrace the lessons, trust the process, and most importantly—never give up! 💪✨
