From Burnout to Burning Bright: My Journey to Becoming a Candle Business Owner

I’m not starting from the beginning, but somewhere in the middle—where life took a turn, and I felt the pull to become a small business owner and my own boss. Many crossroads led me here, and let’s just say, the road wasn’t exactly smooth.

Have you ever just grown tired of making other people rich? Day in and day out, being gaslit into thinking your hard work is appreciated, that it’s all leading to some mythical pot of gold? But that pot never arrives. Instead, your success is measured by how much success you bring to others. Oh girl, clutch the pearls! I just couldn’t take it anymore.

When I sat down to figure out what I truly wanted to do, my list was endless. I dreamed of launching my own makeup line, crafting handmade soaps and bath oils, creating luxury candles, DIY furniture—you name it. I even planned to produce my own essential oils. At one point, my basement looked like a scene straight out of Breaking Bad—all in the name of authenticity!

The point is, I had an appetite for entrepreneurship. A hunger deep in my soul to break free from the corporate machine and finally turn my passion into a thriving business.

After countless late nights and a decision-making process that felt like it spanned the entire map, I had an epiphany: candles. They checked every creative box for me, and I’ve used them in my daily life for as long as I can remember. I had made candles before, but never at the level I envisioned for a handcrafted candle and home fragrance business. The research and testing process was intense, but I was ready for the challenge. That kicked off a year-long journey I’ll never forget. 😊

Fast forward two years later, and I am confident in my brand and my products. But guess what? Now I’ve entered an entirely new world: digital marketing—and let me tell you, it’s a beast. Between learning social media marketing, SEO strategies, AI-driven advertising, and e-commerce trends, it’s a whole new challenge. But that’s a story for another day.
